Ball, Rotherham United line up Fleetwood Town striker as Danny Ward replacement

Rotherham United line up Fleetwood Town striker as Danny Ward replacement

Rotherham United have lined up Fleetwood Town’s David Ball as a replacement for Danny Ward according to a report from the Blackpool Gazette.

While the Millers got relegated from the Sky Bet Championship with barely a whimper last season, Ward was one of the few bright points. He scored 12 goals this season and when the club actually did well, it was usually down to him. However as you’d expect, several teams have been chasing Ward since Rotherham’s relegation and a move away looks more likely than ever. Reports have suggested that Ward is set to complete a £1m move to Cardiff City and Rotherham know they will need a replacement. But luckily they seem to have a man in mind.

The player Rotherham have been looking at to be Ward’s replacement is David Ball who currently plies his trade at Fleetwood. He was a star player for the Cod Army last season, scoring 14 goals as the club shocked everyone by reaching the Sky Bet League One play-offs. But he is out of contract this summer and while Fleetwood have offered him a new deal, there is every chance he could jump at a chance to join Rotherham.

Fleetwood are worried that many of their players could leave after interest in them was raised after a sensational season and losing Ball may be one of the worst things that could happen to them. But this report suggests it is likely as Ball may enjoy heading to pastures new and helping Rotherham in their attempt to get promoted back to the Championship.
