Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge according to a report from the Newcastle Chronicle.
It’s been no secret that after the Magpies sealed their promotion to the Premier League after becoming the champions of the Sky Bet Championship that they have been after new strikers. It appears that they are close to wrapping up a deal to sign Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham and there have also been reports that they are set to go in for Burnley’s Andre Gray. But now they have been linked with a sensational move for an England international.
And that man who may well be on his way to St James Park is Sturridge. He is a noted England international and has been a favourite at Liverpool for many years, the height of his popularity being when he formed a potent partnership with Luis Suarez which helped the Reds come as close as they have ever got to the Premier League title in recent times.
And shockingly even though Sturridge is still a regular for Liverpool, it seems like he has been given a chance to leave the club. This report suggests that Newcastle have been offered the former Chelsea striker and could go in to sign him during the transfer window. Of course this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Tyneside club are going to sign him as while they do want to sign a second striker, they may prefer to sign Gray. But it is sure a tantalising option to have on the table.
