Chris Wood linked with shock move from Leeds as odds tumble on Premier League move

With Sky Bet, the odds of Chris Wood leaving Leeds United this summer have shortened as Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town have become the 9/2 favourites to sign the New Zealand international. Whilst he is still odds on to stay at Elland Road, the odds suggest that there is still some doubt to this prospect.

After surprising the footballing world and achieving promotion into the Premier League, Huddersfield are certainly looking to make the most of their time in the big time. They want to have a real crack at trying to consolidate at this level, and perhaps Chris Wood could give them a chance to do so. A new striker is likely to be on the agenda for David Wagner this summer, and the Leeds front man certainly knows where the back of the net is.

Over a week ago, odds on Wood making the move to Middlesbrough did drop on the back of the likely appointment of Garry Monk at the Riverside Stadium. He has now drifted out to 8/1 to make the move to Teesside. However, 9/2 resembles a big gamble on the prospect of Wood switching divides in Yorkshire in the coming weeks.

He is currently away with his national team playing in World Cup qualification games. Sitting here now, it does seem unlikely that he’ll make the move to Huddersfield, a big rival of Leeds United. However, he may wish to test himself at Premier League level, and Wagner could get the best out of him in this league. With the uncertainty at Elland Road surrounding the next manager, maybe Wood has been effected by the departure of Monk. Not only that, coach James Beattie is said to have worked closely with Wood to improve his game even further. Him going will have upset Wood too.

It may seem a long shot at this stage but someone somewhere seems to know something! The price was much higher this time yesterday, but has quickly dropped to 9/2.
