Club pull out of John Terry deal following £100,000 weekly wage demands

The Evening Standard reports that Brighton & Hove Albion have ended their interest in former Chelsea and England international captain John Terry. It is understood that his £100,000 a week wage demands has seen the Seagulls end their chase for the 36-year-old.

The Premier League legend saw his Chelsea career come to an end at the end of the season after the club decided against offering him a new deal. He found playing time much harder to come by over the past season as the club cantered to the league title. Retirement is not completely off the agenda but Terry seemingly still holds a desire to keep playing for another season at least.

It is believed that JT is looking to remain in the Premier League and Brighton emerged as a possible destination for him. However that won’t be the case any more because of his wage demands, which Brighton cannot compete with. In his final season at Stamford Bridge, it is understood he was earning £50,000 a week, but certain adds-ons may have seen this increase.

Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and AFC Bournemouth are all still believed to be monitoring the situation of Terry. He is seeking more regular first team football after a season confined to the substitutes bench. A move to the Chinese Super League appears less likely after new rules were introduced limited clubs to just three foreign players. Terry appeared on Sunday in Michael Carrick’s testimonial, which was held at Old Trafford. Carrick and Terry were England teammates at one stage.
