Brighton and Hove Albion are set to complete the signing of Aussie International Mathew Ryan from Valencia C.F in Spain. The fee for the Goalkeeper is not known at the moment.

The 25 year old is currently out on loan until the end of June but according to Transfer Centre Live , a very highly accurate and respected source on twitter, the deal is very close and Brighton are “Set to complete the signing” in the near future.

The Sun also reported back towards the start of May that Mathew Ryan is one of Brighton’s main target this Summer. Ryan looks like he’ll be David Stockdale’s replacement who is out of contract this summer.

Mathew Ryan started his professional career eight years ago at Australian side Blacktown City. He made 15 appearances before moving on to Central Coast Mariners in the A-League. Ryan had a three year spell at the club making a total of 94 appearances. While there he won the A-League Premiership and the A-League Championship. As well as the A-League Young Footballer Of The Year award two years in a row. He also won the A-League Goalkeeper Of The Year Award in 2012. Ryan holds the unbeaten record of 13 clean sheets in one A-League season! (A full list of his awards can be found here)

From Australia he moved to Europe, Belgium to be exact. He signed for Club Brugge for a small fee of just £128,000. The Australian spent two years at the Belgian giants. In that time he won the Belgian Cup once and the huge individual award of the Belgian Pro League Goalkeeper Of The Year award two years in a row! (A full list of his awards can be found here). He made a total of 102 appearances for the club and very quickly became a fan favourite. He became that good at Brugge many clubs sent out scouts to go watch him, includin Liverpool.

In 2015 he signed for Spanish side for Valencia where he’s only made 23 appearances. Valencia paid just under £6m for Ryan. In January he signed for Belgian side Genk on a 6 month loan. In that time he’s made 20 appearance. Ryan is due to return to Valencia in 24 days but Brighton are keen to make sure he’s not there for much longer after that.

Brighton are also interested in Manchester City’s Aaron Mooy. An article on this is here.
