Sky Sports understands that Cardiff City have produced a bid of £1.2million for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes. The Sky Bet Championship club are going into battle with Scottish domestic treble winners Celtic, who are now in talks with the 29-year-old.
Over the past few seasons. Hayes has established himself as one of the top players in the Ladbrokes Premiership after demonstrated real consistent at Aberdeen. He netted 11 goals over the past season, leading to Brendan Rodgers looking to take him to the league champions. Neil Warnock however wants him at Cardiff too.
Celtic loaned out midfielder Ryan Christie to Aberdeen last season, becoming an important player. It is believed that Rodgers is happy to use Christie as part of any deal to bring Hayes, who has previously player for Leicester City and Inverness, to the club. Warnock is clearly a big fan of Hayes, having failed twice to sign him in the January transfer window. He is under contract at Pittodrie until 2019 but is expected to leave this summer. The future of his manager, Derek McInnes, is in doubt too with him being heavily linked to Sunderland.
Aberdeen finished as runners up behind Celtic, and were also second best to them in the recent Scottish Cup final too. Hayes may be tempted to test himself at either European level with Celtic, or to try and break into the Premier League with Cardiff. Warnock hasn’t hid from the fact he plans on building a team for promotion at the Cardiff City Stadium. Signing a player of Hayes’ calibre would certainly be a real statement of intent.
