Leeds United favourites to sign Ghanaian striker

According to Ghana Soccer Net, Leeds United have emerged as surprise favourites to secure the signature of Caleb Ekuban.

Ekuban is an Italian born Ghanaian striker, who has spent his the majority of his career playing in the lower divisions of Italian football.

However recently he enjoyed a loan spell in Albania, playing for Partizani Tirana. During his time in the Albanian capital, Ekuban scored 15 goals in 30 games.

The Ghanaian’s current side are Chievo Verona, who play in the top flight in Italy, but he has struggled to make an impression at the side who finished 14th in Serie A this season.

He has been loaned out for the majority of his career, after making it through the youth set up at his current club.

Wherever he has gone, his goalscoring record has been distinctly average. In total in his career he has scored 29 goals in 103 games.

That being said, he is only 23, so given first team opportunities he could potentially become a better player.

Leeds United are not the only interested club however, with Cypriot champions Apoel Nicosia also said to be interested, and rumours are suggested Nicosia have submitted a bid of £500,000 for the striker.

The front man is expected to sit down with current club Chievo in the coming days as they try to decide what best to do for the future.

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Celtic and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths in recent days, but could be tempted with Caleb Ekuban due to the fact that he will be a lot cheaper.
