Scunthorpe United head coach Graham Alexander has told the Daily Record that the club are going to up their efforts to sign Rangers’ Matt Crooks.

Crooks was seen as a big signing for Rangers when he moved there from Accrington Stanley last summer but it is yet to work out for him. He missed the start of the season due to an ankle ligament injury and was unable to get back into the first team when he did recover.

This led to Crooks being loaned out to Scunthorpe in the January transfer window and he was well liked at Glanford Park with Alexander often praising his performances. However injury would come to haunt Crooks once again as his loan was ended a month early due to a knee problem he picked up.

But with even those problems, Scunthorpe do want to bring him back to Lincolnshire whether it is on loan or a permanent deal and Alexander is hoping to step up those efforts in the next few days.

He said: “We’ve spoken with Rangers to try and find out Matt Crooks’ situation.”

“It’s a bit difficult at the moment as he’s still injured from his time with us so we are waiting on information coming back from them on what his situation is.”
