Millwall fail in attempts to sign Burton Albion captain as he signs new deal

Millwall have failed in their attempts to sign Burton Albion’s John Mousinho as he has signed a new contract with the Brewers as confirmed by the club website.

With Mousinho was coming off the back of a great campaign for Burton where he led them to safety in the Sky Bet Championship despite almost every pundit tipping them for the drop, it was no surprise to see that teams were interested in signing him when he was out of contract this summer. Most notably there was interest from Millwall, who had talks with him about potentially moving to the club.

However the Lions did not do enough to persuade Mousinho as he has now penned a new one-year contract with Burton. He will now get the chance to lead the Brewers into another historic season in the Championship and he will be hoping to push the Staffordshire club further up the table. They ended up finishing in 20th place, just one point above relegated Blackburn Rovers.

This season was not just Burton’s first time in the Championship but also Mousinho’s. Most of his career had been spent in the lower part of the EFL, starting off his time in football with Brentford. He would play for the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Stevenage and Preston North End before landing at Burton in 2014. He would then become one of the key players during the best period of Burton’s history as they ended up getting promoted two times in the row, rising from the Sky Bet League Two to the Championship.
