Newcastle United in three team chase for Manchester City midfielder

Newcastle United are in a three team chase to try and sign Manchester City’s Febian Delph according to a report from the Daily Star.

The Magpies were promoted to the Premier League this season after becoming the champions of the Sky Bet Championship and are now set to spend big to make sure they don’t make a quick return to the second tier. They have already been linked with a lot of big moves and now a report suggests that they are in the chase for an out of favour Manchester City and England midfielder.

They are looking to sign Delph, someone who has found himself on the outskirts of the Manchester City squad. While he would be happy to stay at the Etihad Stadium to fight for his place in the first team, their head coach Pep Guardiola is planning to completely overhaul the squad this summer and Delph is one of the players set to go. This overhaul also saw Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando being linked with moves to Newcastle and now the Tyneside club are linked with their third City player of the summer.

But if Newcastle do start to pursue Delph more seriously, they are set to face plenty of competition from their new Premier League rivals. Burnley are interested in the midfielder as they look to replace Joey Barton following his 18 month ban for illegal betting while West Bromwich Albion are also looking to sign him after being shocked by Darren Fletcher when he turned down a contract offer to stay with the club.
