Retained List: Play-off winners Huddersfield allow two to leave

Following their dramatic play-off final triumph over Reading, Huddersfield Town have now confirmed their retained list. Head coach David Wagner has offered two new contracts to two members of his promotion winning squad, but two are to move on.

In addition to this, the Premier League club have culled several members of their Under-23 squad so they can look for new clubs. Several other youngsters have been offered professional terms with the Terriers, but the main news is that it is two out of the door at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Focusing on those who will be remaining, the headline point is that veteran midfielder Dean Whitehead is wanted by Wagner for their debut Premier League campaign. His experience of playing at the highest level makes him a vital squad player to call upon. He made 16 league appearances last season in a campaign that was hampered by injury and suspension, plus the form of Jonathan Hogg and Aaron Mooy made it very hard for him to play more. Young keeper Luke Coddington is someone Wagner wishes to keep as well.

Joe Murphy has been officially released by the club following the expiration of his contract. The 35-year-old ended the season out on loan at Sky Bet League One side Bury, and he is set to pen a permanent deal with Lee Clark’s side. Striker Flo Bojaj, who spent time on loan at Newport County last season, is the second first-team player to be told that he can leave.

Offered new contract: Dean Whitehead & Luke Coddington.

Released: Joe Murphy & Flo Bojaj.
