Leeds United favourites to secure signature of Celtic forward

Leeds United are joint-favourites to secure the signature of Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths, according to bookmaker Bet Victor.

The Whites are priced at 6/1 to bring the Scottish forward to Elland Road before the conclusion of the summer transfer window, the same price as Championship rivals Wolves.

Griffiths played a part in an historic season for Celtic, with the club going undefeated as they stormed their way to the Scottish title and Cup success.

In 38 appearances in all competitions, the 26-year-old scored 18 goals and assisted a further 15. Five of those goals came in the Champions League campaign.

Griffiths also has international experience, having represented Scotland on 12 occasions. The most recent appearance coming in the World Cup qualifier win over Slovenia in March.

Currently, Leeds United have Chris Wood, Souleymane Doukara and Marcus Antonsson as their striking options, with Wood scoring 30 goals in all competitions last season.

The West Yorkshire outfit are currently without a manager after Garry Monk’s shock resignation last week.

Former Premier League winning manager Claudio Ranieri is back in the running as second favourite to take over at the club, with his odds currently standing at 7/2, crashing down from 14/1 yesterday, making him the second favourite to be offered the role at Elland Road.

Ex-Real Madrid and Malaga boss Juande Ramos has now drifted out to third favourite in the running at 5/1, having sprung into the market at 3/1 yesterday.

The 62-year-old is currently 3/1 in the market for next Leeds boss, having previously not been a part of the running on bookmakers’ lists.

Ramos’ last appointment was at Spanish side Malaga, winning five, drawing six and losing seven in 18 games in charge of the club.

Previous to that, Ramos had a lengthy spell at Ukranian outfit Dnipro, winning 80 of his 139 games at the helm.

Last season’s Assistant Head Coach Pep Clotet remains the favourite to takeover at Elland Road.
