Brighton & Hove Albion target Efe Ambrose has completed his move to Scottish Premiership new boys Hibernian according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

The 28-year-old Nigerian international centre-back was thought to be on Seagulls boss Chris Hughton’s wanted list however the player has re-joined Hibernian on a two-year deal.

In truth, Albion were never likely to sign Ambrose this summer with the defender having built a close relationship with Hibs boss Neil Lennon both during his time at Celtic and the player’s loan spell at Easter Road towards the end of the season. Ambrose made 12 appearances for the Edinburgh based club and scored one goal and with the player having thoroughly enjoyed his time as a Hibee, he was always likely to return on a permanent basis.

Ambrose is a hugely experienced defender with the player having made 168 appearances during a five-year spell with Celtic in which the centre-back scored six goals and won five consecutive league titles along with two League Cups and two Scottish Cups.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Hughton is likely to have drafted a large list of summer transfer targets and while the club failed to sign Ambrose there will be plenty of other defensive targets being chased by The Seagulls in the close season.
