Wigan Athletic set to make move for Port Vale defender

Wigan Athletic are set to make a move to sign Port Vale’s Remie Streete according to a report from HITC Sport.

While the Valiants did get relegated from Sky Bet League One this season, one of their bright performances was Streete. Despite being aged just 22-years-old, he was consistently their best player throughout the season and was seen as someone the team could build around for the future.

But those plans have been nixed because he has left the club at the end of his contract this summer so he doesn’t have to drop down with the rest of the team to Sky Bet league Two. But thanks to his great performances with Port Vale this season, plenty of teams are interested in signing him and one of those teams are Wigan.

Their recently appointed head coach Paul Cook is keen to rebuild his new squad so he can get the Latics back in the Sky Bet Championship as soon as possible. One of those players is Streete. He has been a fan of the defender for a while and was looking to sign him for Portsmouth when it seemed like his future would be keeping him at Fratton Park. But while Pompey, and a number of other clubs, are said to be still interested in Streete, they now have to face competition from Wigan who have joined the race.

Wigan are yet to sign anyone since their relegation from the Championship but are planning to bring in plenty to make sure their stay in League One is a short one.
