Napoli’s Jose Reina wants to move to Newcastle United according to a report from Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport via the Sports Witness.
Reports in Italy have suggested that Reina is looking to leave the iconic Italian club after he had a heated argument with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Apparently at the end of season dinner, De Laurentiis told Reina he needed to give up outside distractions to become a better player, seemingly referring to his wife. Reina and his spouse would then leave the dinner and he could end up leaving the club over this matter.
And with relations between player and club at an all time low, Reina is looking to move to a club where relations with the hierarchy would be brilliant. He wants to reunite with former head coach Rafa Benitez, a move that would work for both teams as it seems like Newcastle are on the look out for a new goalkeeper. Reports have suggested they are willing to let Matz Sels leave just a year after signing him and now that they are back in the Premier League, Reina would be an experienced and star man in between the sticks.
The good relationship between Reina and Benitez came from their time Liverpool together. Both men were able to become favourites at Anfield for the sheer amount of success the club had when they part of it, most notably their stunning penalties win in the Champions League final against AC Milan when they were 3-0 down at half time.
