Leeds United face competition to re-sign former player

Earlier today (June 1), Jonny Howson rejected a new contract at Norwich City, implying that he has the intention of leaving the club.

In response, the Canaries have said that they will “reluctantly” listen to any bids for Howson.

One club who are reported to be particularly interested in signing Howson is Leeds United.

Jonny Howson moved to Norwich City from the Yorkshire club in 2012, but is still fondly remembered at Elland Road.

He came through the youth system at the club, and was a prominent feature in their squad for a number of years.

However, Leeds United will face a lot of strong competition in the chase for Howson’s signature.

Of course, the history that Howson has with the Whites could go a long way in deciding his destination, but TeamTalk are reporting that a number of Premier League clubs have shown interest in the midfielder.

Burnley and recently appointed Brighton & Hove Albion are both reported to be keen in offering Howson an opportunity to play Premier League football again following Norwich City’s relegation in 2015/16.

Recently relegated Sunderland and Middlesbrough are both also said to be interested in Howson, as they both aim to build squads capable of competing in the Sky Bet Championship.

Of course, all four of these clubs will have higher wage budgets than Leeds United due to recent/future involvement in the Premier League, but Leeds fans will be hoping that nostalgic feelings help drag Howson all the way back to Elland Road.
