Leeds United start talks with potential new manager

According to TeamTalk, Leeds United have opened talks with Aitor Karanka, with the Spaniard expected to become the new Whites boss in the coming days.

The former Middlesbrough manager emerged as a clear favourite to take the job after Victor Orta was appointed as the director of football at Elland Road.

The pair worked together at Middlesbrough, and oversaw a promotion from the Sky Bet Championship during their time at the club.

And the pair look set to be reunited, with reports suggesting that an approach for Karanka has already been made.

A number of names have been linked with the Leeds United job since Garry Monk handed in his resignation early last week, but Karanka has been one that has been there from the start.

Immediately after Monk’s resignation, Karanka was listed as the early favourite. Of course this changed over the course of the week, with Premier League winning manager Claudio Ranieri looking like he was going to join the club.

But it seems that all the speculation has been put to bed, and it seems like a perfect fit that Orta and Karanka will be reunited, this time at Leeds United.

Following the official announcement of Victor Orta as director of football at Elland Road, Karanka’s odds on becoming the next manager changed drastically. He was previously 11/10, but his odds changed to 1/3 when it had been confirmed that Orta had joined the club.

Leeds United fans can be optimistic about a future with Karanka. He has a proven record in the Sky Bet Championship, carrying Middlesbrough to a Play-Off Final in 2014/15, before securing automatic promotion with them the following season.
