Derby County joined by Premier League duo in race to sign Barnsley defender

Derby County have been joined by Premier League sides Burnley and Swansea City in the race to sign Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom according to a report from HITC Sport.

Barnsley surprised everyone last season as they started the season in the Sky Bet Championship play-off places, though they would eventually drop down the table and finish in 14th place. One of their star men was Yiadom, someone who was rock solid in their defence as they were able to finish comfortably in mid-table. But it appears that other teams have noticed his form and are set to make moves in the summer to try and sign him.

It had been reported a few weeks ago that Swansea were interested in Yiadom and they are still looking to sign the defender now that their place in the Premier League is secure. But now two other teams are in the chase including one of Barnsley’s Championship rivals. Burnley are looking to improve their defence after confirming their place in the top tier for another year but Yiadom could also be part of Derby’s revolution. Their head coach Gary Rowett is looking to reshape the squad and sees the full back as a potential star player for his back four.

While Barnsley would want to keep Yiadom, it does seem like they will be forced to sell him. He is in the last year of his contract and if the Tykes want to get a fee for him, they may have to accept one of the bids set to come from this trio in the coming weeks.
