According to the Daily Mail’s ‘Mail Online’, League One side Northampton are lining up a loan bid for young Manchester United defender Regan Poole.
The 18-year-old central defender, who is equally at home in either of the two central defensive slots, has been a regular in Manchester United’s Under-23 side this season just gone, making 17 Premier League 2 appearances, setting up one goal.
He made his only appearance for Manchester United under Louis van Gaal in a February 20016 Europa League tie against FC Midtjylland, coming on for a one-minute cameo appearance in a 5-1 Old Trafford win.
Poole made his first impact in English football as a 16-year-old for Newport County, playing in 11 League Two fixtures in their 2014/15 campaign. This brought about a September 2015 move to Manchester United for a fee said to be around £175,000.
His manager at the time was Justin Edinburgh, who is now at Northampton and the mail online say “Poole is keen to reunite with his former mentor.”
Quoting the Manchester United youngster, the Mail Online go on to say that Poole states: “It’s possible I could go out on loan, but I haven’t spoken to the club about what happens next season. It’s a tough one because I’m developing under the best coaches in the world at United, and it’s all about what the club thinks is best for me. But I would like to get out on loan. I miss playing in the league, there was nothing better.”
There is other interest in youngster Poole, with several clubs having said to have made an enquiry, but Northampton are said to be in pole position due to Edinburgh’s presence as manager.
