Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers have joined a list of teams interested in Exeter City star Ollie Watkins, according to GetWestLondon.
The Grecians lost out on promotion to Sky Bet League One today (May 28th) as Blackpool eventually won 2-1 at the National Stadium and it looks like Watkins will be on his way out of St James Park.
The young midfielder was named as EFL Young Player of the Year after his impressive performances led to Exeter finishing fourth in the Sky Bet League Two table.
The 21-year-old has had an outstanding season in England’s fourth-tier, scoring fifteen goals and grab seven assists – attracting plenty of interest from a number of Football League clubs.
With QPR looking for value for money in this summer’s transfer window, Ian Holloway may look at City’s exciting midfielder Watkins as a suitable option.
But should Holloway look to sign the youngster, he will need to fight off interest from fellow Sky Bet Championship clubs Aston Villa, Bristol City and Leeds United.
Speaking back in January, Exeter boss Paul Tisdale said that the Club would wait until the summer to see if their young talent leaves or not.
“We’ll have to wait and see. It depends on timing, on who it is, whether we feel it’s the right time for us to sell him, the amount and if someone comes back in and offers.
“It’s window-to-window these days you have to wait for those two moments and this moment coming this summer, it will all be about circumstances because clubs who may have been interested before may not have the same manager. It’s so hard to predict that we just have to do our best to keep him improving.”
