Ward, Cardiff City aim to sign Rotherham United star

Cardiff City aim to sign Rotherham United star

Cardiff City are interested in signing Rotherham United’s Danny Ward according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon via Wales Online.

While Rotherham had a miserable season as they were rooted to the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship for the majority of the season and their relegation ended up being expected rather than the nasty shock it is for most teams. But while it was mostly terrible for the Millers, their striker Ward actually had a good season. He would end up scoring 12 goals and any of the club’s bright moments this season usually came through him.

But with Rotherham set to play in Sky Bet League One next season and Ward only having a year left on his contract, he looks set to leave the club for two reasons. One, Ward will be seen as too good for that division because of his form in the Championship and two should Rotherham not get promoted back to the second tier at the first attempt, they’ll end up losing him on a free transfer in a year’s time.

And Cardiff are interested in signing Ward because of this situation. Their head coach Neil Warnock is very familiar with Ward after he managed him during his short spell at Rotherham at the end of last season and is looking to reunite in South Wales as the club look to challenge for a place in the play-offs. But they will be expected to pay out for him as the Millers value Ward at £1m.
