Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers considering move for Lincoln City star

Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers are considering whether they should make a move to sign Lincoln City’s Alex Woodyard according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.

Lincoln became one of the stories of the season this year due to some of their incredible exploits. Not only did they finally get out of the Vanarama National by topping the league, but they also reached the FA Cup quarter-finals, beating Premier League Burnley at Turf Moor on the way, and were again close to a Wembley visit before being beaten by the other famous cathedral city York in the FA Trophy semi-final.

One of the men who was key to this incredibly year was Woodyard, a 24-year-old midfielder who followed head coach Danny Cowley from Braintree Town this summer. He barely missed a game throughout the year and consistently performed which was why he ended up with a bagful of awards at the end of the year, including Lincoln’s Player of the Year and the National League Player of the Year award.

But Lincoln may find it hard to keep their star man as two teams from the Sky Bet Championship are now interested in him. Both Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers have been very impressed with him over the last few months and are considering making a move for him in the coming weeks. Of course this would be a massive jump up in quality of division for Woodyard, but players such as Andre Gray and Jamie Vardy have been able to do it before him and there is no reason why he can’t emulate them.
