Derby County look to land Burnley favourite on free transfer

Derby County are look to sign Burnley’s George Boyd on a free transfer during the delay in their contract talks according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

Boyd has been a favourite at Burnley ever since he signed for them for £3m from Hull City, being a regular as the Clarets continue to establish themselves in the Premier League. However his contract is set to expire this summer and while both parties would be happy to agree on a new deal, they disagree on certain aspects. Burnley only want Boyd on a short-term deal but he has rejected the one-year contract he was offered, saying he wants a longer deal.

With talks currently stalling while both parties find a compromise, Derby are hoping to move in and take advantage of the lack of movement in talks to sign him for themselves. The Rams have had a lot of coups over the last few years as they have been strengthening their squad to sustain constant pushes for promotion but this one could top the lot. They are looking to sign a man who is a proven threat at the top level and could end up being a devastating player on his return to the Sky Bet Championship.

This is all part of a massive overhaul that recently appointed head coach Gary Rowett is planning with the likes of Tom Ince, Jason Shackell and Darren Bent all on the transfer list, proving how much things could change for the East Midlands side going into next season.
