A week ago, Garry Monk was odds on favourite to become the next manager of Middlesbrough.

But rumours began to surface that talks had begun between Monk and the new Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani, following the completion of the Italian’s takeover earlier this week.

Because of this, the odds on Monk to become the new manager of Middlesbrough rose, and he was as far out as 10/1 at one point.

However, news broke earlier today (May 25) that Gary Monk had resigned from his role as manager at Elland Road.

It came as a shock to everyone, and Leeds United fans are struggling to come to terms with the news.

Since Monk’s resignation was announced, the odds on him taking over at the Riverside have dropped tremendously, and he is now back down to evens.

Whether or not he has resigned because his eyes have wondered elsewhere remains to be seen, but amid interest from both Middlesbrough and Sunderland, Monk is now a free man.

In a statement on the club website, it said that Monk was “considering life beyond Leeds United.”

Does this mean that he has another job lined up?

It’s safe to say that the Middlesbrough fans certainly hope so:

This supporter is a little bit optimistic…

This Middlesbrough fan encouraged his team to do any work necessary to secure the signature of Garry Monk.

I get the feeling that this Middlesbrough fan wants to see Monk in charge at the Riverside…
