The 5 early favourites to succeed Garry Monk as Leeds United head coach

Former Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is mentioned in the running for this job right now. He was sacked in December 2016 following a bad run of form. Sam Allardyce then came in to ‘clean up the mess’ and eventually guide the club to safety from relegation. A similar issue occurred at Newcastle United, who he managed before the Eagles. He still has a fairly decent reputation in the game in some quarters, but fans will need convincing about him. He hasn’t managed at Championship level for a while now too.

The final mention goes to Mick McCarthy of Ipswich Town. He grew up as a supporter of Leeds and he would surely find the opportunity too good to turn down if offered. He is priced at 12/1, the same as the likes of Pardew, former Norwich manager Alex Neil, Premier League winner Claudio Ranieri and departed Sunderland boss David Moyes. They are perhaps less likely to get the nod. McCarthy is proven at this level and is vastly experienced too. His style of play has come under criticism from Ipswich fans this season and he may be tempted by a challenge elsewhere. It seems unlikely at this stage. But you never know.
