Sky Bet Championship side Newcastle United have been hit by comments from Kelechi Iheanacho about a switch to St James’ Park.
The 20-year-old signed for Manchester City in 2014 as an academy player before being promoted to the first team ahead of the 2015-16 season.
The Nigerian international has scored twelve times in 42 appearances for the Manchester giants, but has failed to cement a regular place in the starting team.
And with the Mapgies having won promotion back to the Barclays Premier League, boss Rafa Benitez could look to take advantage of the loan market.
However, the Daily Star reported that Iheanacho is not planning on departing the Etihad any time soon.
“I’m not very aware of that,” he said, commenting on the transfer rumours surrounding him.
“I just keep working with the team and I’m still at Manchester City so I’ll meet up with the boys and kick off the season with Manchester City.
“I’m happy to stay at Manchester City and keep fighting to help them achieve what they want to achieve. Manchester City is a big team and we need to go far as a squad, so we need everybody.
“Of course everyone is competing but we compete as a team. The manager can only pick 11 players so everyone is working, doing well and going 100 percent.
“We keep working and see what comes around next season. It was a good season so I’ve really enjoyed it with my team-mates.”
Newcastle finished top of the Sky Bet Championship with a final-day victory proving enough as Brighton could only draw at Aston Villa.
