Newcastle United chasing Inter Milan defender

According reports from various media outlets in Italy, Newcastle United are interested in signing Inter Milan defender Jeison Murillo.

Gazzetta.it reports that the Colombian would cost Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez approximately £12 million.

The Italian publication states that Murillo will be listed for transfer this season as Inter Milan aim to cut down on their wage budget.

However, they are not the only club who are interest in the Inter Milan central defender. European giants such as Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and AS Monaco are rumoured to be interest in the Colombian international.

Newcastle United are looking to sign an experienced centre back ahead of their immediate return to the Premier League, and it is rumoured that Benitez may call on favours from his former employees to secure the signature of Murillo.

It is fair to say that Murillo is not your stereotypical centre back. The central defender is below six foot, meaning that he may struggle in the air. But what he lacks in height he makes up for in speed and agility.

He’s exceptionally quick for a central defender, and has good strength for someone of his height.

Murillo is only 24 years old, but has a lot of experienced for someone of that age.

The Colombian joined Inter from Granada in 2015, and has been a regular in the Italian giants’ team ever since.

He played 34 games in all competitions this season, including five in the Europa League.

In addition to having continental experience, Murillo has been capped 25 times by Colombia, scoring one goal for his country.
