Cardiff City are still the favourites to sign Hearts’ Callum Paterson despite interest from Rangers according to a report from The Scottish Sun.
It’s been well known for a while that the Bluebirds have been keen to snap up Paterson when his contract expires in the summer despite him still recovering from an injury. They were prepared to pay £400K in compensation, something they have to do because of his age, to make sure they had a talented defender on their squad for next season as head coach Neil Warnock looks to push them up the Sky Bet Championship table.
But there had been some doubts that Paterson would end up completing the move to Cardiff over the last few weeks. Rangers had been looking to hijack the deal and sign the talented defender for themselves, with their head coach Pedro Caixinha wanting to continue his transfer strategy for the summer to bring more Scottish players into Ibrox.
But any Cardiff fans worried that the Paterson deal might not happen can rest at ease because despite this road bump, the move is still on. According to this report, the Scot was won over when talking about the move with Warnock and that because of that, he wants to head to South Wales and help Cardiff in their Championship exploits. Even though Rangers’ reputation has declined in recent years due to them being banished from the Scottish Premier League, it is still a great coup for Cardiff to beat them to the signing of a highly rated player.
