Newcastle United interested in Ligue 1 striker

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Ligue 1 striker Nicolas Pepe.

The 21 year old striker is currently plying his trade with French side Angers.

Pepe has previously been linked with a move to the North East, and negotiations were ongoing in the January transfer market.

A deal was never complete, but talkSPORT have today reported that the Sky Bet Championship winners have reignited their interest in the striker.

Rumours from L’Equipe, a French sports media outlet, have reported that a bid has been submitted for the striker.

It will not be easy for them to prize Pepe away from Angers however, with interest coming in from a lot of other European Clubs.

Fellow Ligue 1 sides AS Monaco and Lyon are believed to be extremely interested in the striker, as they look to replace Kevin Mbappe-Lottin and Alexandre Lacazette respectively.

Marseille are also rumoured to be interested in the Ivorian striker.
His goal count this season has not been particularly impressive, and he has only found the back of the net three times in 33 appearances.
However, he has helped to steer his side to a national cup final.
This coming weekend, Angers will face Paris Saint German in the Coupe de France final, and it is believed that Nicolas Pepe will not announce his future until after the final has been played.
