Carlos Carvalhal

Carlos Carvalhal’s future at Sheffield Wednesday decided

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal will be signing a new contract with the club and staying according to a report from the Yorkshire Post.

Ever since the Owls lost in the play-offs in that heartbreaking penalty shoot out against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town, there have been reports that Carvalhal was set to leave the club. In the past he has rarely stayed at any club for a long period of time and reports did say that his contract was set to expire in the summer, meaning a departure could easily happen.

But after all of these reports saying Carvalhal might leave, and some suggesting who Wednesday might get in as his replacement, the Portuguese man will be staying at Hillsborough for another year. Their owner Dejphon Chansiri still has faith in him despite suffering another disappointment in the play-offs and is willing to give him another chance as the Owls look to finally return to the Premier League next season. This means that it is likely that Carvalhal will agree a new contract in the next few days to confirm he will be staying in South Yorkshire.

Carvalhal came into Wednesday as a complete unknown in the summer of 2015 but soon made himself a favourite after guiding the team to their best position since they were relegated from the Premier League in 2000. They would suffer heartbreak at Wembley when they lost 1-0 to Hull City and they were once again disappointing after losing to Huddersfield on penalties this time around.
