Garry Monk, Leeds United to extend Garry Monk’s contract

Leeds United to extend Garry Monk’s contract

Leeds United have attempted to extend Garry Monk’s contract at Elland Road by another year.

The Daily Mail reports that the club have “looked to exercise a one-year option to extend the contract of manager Garry Monk and will enter into discussions on a new deal to run beyond that period.”

Recent reports have linked Garry Monk with other jobs, but the manager has since confirmed that he wanted to remain at the Yorkshire club.

Monk’s first season was considered a success, despite a disappointing end to their Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Leeds were in the Play-Off spots for the majority of the season, but a poor finish saw them drop to seventh place in the table, and miss out on the top six, by five points.

And it appears that Monk is planning on committing his future to the Yorkshire club, amid rumours that recently relegated Middlesbrough and Sunderland are interested in securing his signature.

Sunderland’s manager David Moyes quit the club yesterday following their relegation from the top flight, as they finished bottom of the table.

Garry Monk was given odds of 10/1 straight from the off for the Sunderland job, and many Black Cats’ fans tweeted Monk directly in a bid to try and entice him to the North East.

Monk was also odds on for the job at Middlesbrough, and rumours suggest that Boro were planning on starting talks with the 38 year old manager.
