Derby County and Oxford United look to beat Rangers to signing of Motherwell striker

Derby County and Oxford United are looking to beat Rangers to the sign of Motherwell’s Louis Moult according to a report from the Scottish Sun.

Both Rangers and Motherwell are having an overhaul in their squads this summer and it seems like Moult will be the latest player to leave the latter side. Rangers head coach Pedro Caixinha wants to sign more Scottish players for their side as they look to challenge fierce rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premier League title and believe that Moult, who scored 18 goals for Motherwell last season, would be a great man to lead their line going into next season.

But there has been delays in the deal being done because of how much Motherwell want from the transfer. They are not only asking for a fee of £500K but they also want Michael O’Halloran on loan for the rest of the season as a replacement for Moult. They have had interest in O’Halloran for a while and failed in a bid to sign him in the January transfer window and are hoping to finally get him this time around.

But thrashing out the details of the deal is slowing it down and is opening the doors for EFL sides to try and sign Moult. And this report suggests that both Derby and Oxford are ready to pounce and sign up the striker should Rangers take too long to sign him. Both have been impressed with his form for Motherwell this season and believe he could easily transition to life back in England considering he counts Northampton Town and Stoke City amongst his former teams.
