Who the Farke? Canaries set to announce new boss

Norwich City are close to appointing Borussia Dortmund II coach Daniel Farke as their new manager, according to TalkSPORT.

The Canaries have been without a permanent Manager since March 2017, when the Norfolk side ended Alex Neil’s two-year tenure at Carrow Road, however Alan Irvine guided the Club to an eight-place finish following relegation from the Barclays Premier League a year ago.

But the Sky Bet Championship side are now looking to foreign soil for their next appointment, with German Daniel Warke expected to sign a two-year deal in East Anglia later this week.

Since the season’s end the Canaries have been actively searching for Neil’s successor, holding talks with numerous parties. City’s Sporting Director Stuart Webber targeted the German to become the Club’s first foreign manager, as well as labelling numerous English options – including Danny Cowley from Lincoln City and Barnsley’s Paul Heckingbottom.

Farke has managed Dortund’s second-side since David Wagner was attracted to Huddersfield Town in 2015, and the former lower-league German player led the German giants’ second-side to a second-placed finish.

Webber was influential in bringing Wagner to the John Smiths’ Stadium and the former Schalke player has taken the Terries to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final against Reading at Wembley Stadium.

Wagner was ranked as third favourite to take the job at Carrow Road, but with the Terriers fighting for promotion to Premier League he looks unlikely to take the job. Leeds United’s Garry Monk was another deemed suitable for the job but he is also likely to stay with his current Club.

Should Farke make the switch to Carrow Road, he will be expected to make additions in the summer transfer window. The Canaries announced their retained list at the beginning of May and Farke will need to replace long-serving goalkeeper John Ruddy and Ryan Bennett.
