Birmingham City are set to make a sensational swoop to sign Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphick according to a report from the Sun via the Birmingham Mail.
Now that the managerial situation at Birmingham has been sorted for next season with it being revealed that Harry Redknapp is the head coach going forward, they are set to make a move on the transfers they want to do for next season. With the club having some money to play with after their takeover last season and the fact Redknapp is famous for being a wheeler dealer, the fans are now excited for this transfer window.
But the response may be mixed as it appears that the first man that Birmingham are chasing is currently in the claret and blue of Aston Villa. This report suggests the Blues are interested in signing Elphick, a 29-year-old defender who has been able to get a lot of experience in the Sky Bet Championship and was the club captain of Bournemouth when they got promoted to the Premier League.
Elphick would sign for Aston Villa last year as the part of the massive influx of players they signed following their relegation to the Championship. Unfortunately while he started the season in the first team, he would end up being ousted by Nathan Baker as him and James Chester would go on to form an effective partnership. And now Elphick may be set to move the short distance to St Andrews and became one of the brave players who dared to switch between these two fierce rivals.
