Leeds United fans react on Twitter to link with 12-goal hotshot

This time in the football season is when rumours start to get flipped around linking Player X with Club Y or vice versa. It is the nature of the football beast.

Club retained lists have been submitted for EFL clubs, now the business turns to either plugging gaps or adding to strengths as management looks to build stronger and more robust sides. For some the onus is on strengthening to avoid another relegation battle, others it is to push on from the disappointment of mid-table mediocrity.

Leeds United fit into a different category altogether, well they will next season. Last season’s campaign was one of a brave charge into the top six in the Championship where they stayed dug in for 26 games and 142 days. Ultimately though, it ended in disappointment as a 1-0 home defeat to Wolves saw the Whites drop to 7th, a position from which they never recovered.

After season’s of mid-table mediocrity, and worse, Leeds United’s faithful fans were rewarded with a season that nearly was, but a season where hope carries over into the next campaign. Leeds’ charge up the table, and subsequent finish on the brink of the play-offs, was largely due to the impressive 27 goals scored by Chris Wood.

With the Whites other goal scorers failing to hit double figures, a cluster of players being on six goals, fans are saying that their side need a more reliable goal outlet. with this no doubt in mind, bookmakers Bet Victor have installed Leeds United as the 6/1 joint-favourites to sign Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

Leigh Griffiths and Leeds United fans views

Across the whole of this season and all competitions, Griffiths featured 37 times for Celtic and scored 18 goals, with six appearances and five goals coming in Champions League Qualification. He rounded off his season with a goal in a 2-0 win over Hearts that saw the Bhoys go through the season undefeated; it was his fourth goal in his last five games – along with four assists.

It is that finish, and ability, that has prompted the following reaction from this Leeds fan on Twitter.

The view of the following Leeds fan, Matty, is that Griffiths would be welcome at Elland Road, but only in a supporting role to main striker and goal scorer Chris Wood.

This Leeds fan is also of the opinion that signing Griffiths to become a part of Leeds’ Premier League push for next season is a must.

Some Leeds United fans aren’t too certain about the links of Griffiths to Leeds, what with the bookmakers installing him as a potential first choice target for the Whites.

Leeds fan Jonny sees Griffiths as being one of those signings that the Whites MUST make in order to make headway next season, and hopefully improve on the 7th place finish last time out.
