Newcastle United chasing former Juventus trainee

It’s a new day, and Newcastle United have been linked with a new player.

The ‘Rafalution’ is very much underway, as Rafa Benitez aims to rebuild his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Newcastle won the Sky Bet Championship on the final day, earning themselves an immediate return to the top flight.

And whilst Benitez is believed to want someone with Premier League experience, he will not be afraid to take a gamble on certain players.

The latest player Newcastle United have been linked with is Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Pires.

He may be unheard of to many of you, but he’s spent time at one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Pires spent time with Champions League finalists Juventus, but failed to make the cut during his time in Italy, and never featured for the Turn Giants.

But the Mirror has reported that he is on the radar of Rafa Benitez, who will face tough competition to sign the midfielder.

Everton and West Ham United are rumoured to be interested in signing Pires, as well as Zenit St Petersburg, but Russia is not believed to be a place where the Brazilian wants to play his football.

He is currently plying his trade in Spain, playing for La Liga side Leganes.

The 23 year old originally joined the club on loan, but helped them to promotion to the top flight, and has impressed there ever since.

A release clause in his contract means that he would be available for approximately £6 million.
