When Leeds United got rid of fan favourite Luciano Becchio to Norwich City, the fee was minimal but the Whites did get Steve Morison in part exchange.
In football terms, for Leeds United fans anyway, trading Becchio for Morison was like walking in to a car dealership with a decent family saloon car for part-ex and coming out with a bit of a reliable hatchback.
Leeds United fans definitely felt a little short-changed with that particular deal. They don’t really like to be reminded of it.
During his time at Leeds, after signing for them on 31 January 2013, Morison made 42 appearances and scored just five goals for the Whites. 18 months later, at the beginning of August 2015, Morison returned to former club Millwall who had sold him four years previously for £2.7 million.
His strike rate has been more impressive for Millwall, in his two spells there he has notched 85 goals and provided 49 assists in 243 appearances. This total includes 11 goals scored over 38 League One fixtures this season. None of those 11 goals though will be seen as important as the one below, scored at Wembley today in the League One Play-Off Final.
👊 What a moment for @MillwallFC.

Truth be told, it was a typical Steve Morison finish, sneaking in ahead of the last defender to stab the ball home. It was a goal that brought obvious joy to Millwall fans, but also was a goal that had Leeds United fans commenting on Twitter.
Morison goal ‘shifts’ Lions into the Championship – Leeds United fans comment on Twitter
Leeds United fans nicknamed Steve Morison ‘Shift’ because of the honesty that he went about his job at the club, always putting in a shift on the pitch. The goals were few and far between, fans more used to seeing this from the hard-working frontman rather than the net bulging.

Leeds fans were also quick to comment on the fact that his goal, the only one of the game, knocked out Leeds’ noisy neighbours Bradford City.

Morison was offside as well which makes it even better 😂😭

Some fans are worried though, that Morison’s return to the Championship will lead to that inevitable goal scored against the Whites by a former player.

Leeds fan Gavin just seems to have a sense of love for Morison for his goal knocking out Bradford City.
