Wednesday boss set for showdown talks over his future

Sheffield Wednesday’s head coach Carlos Carvalhal will sit down with the club’s chairman Dejphon Chansiri next week to discuss whether he will stay on at Hillsborough next season according to the Sheffield Star.

The 51-year-old Portuguese boss suffered Play-Off heartbreak with The Owls for the second consecutive season when his side were dumped out of the Play-Offs by Huddersfield Town on penalty kicks in the Semi-Final Second Leg in South Yorkshire in midweek.

Despite initially being reported that Carvalhal was tied down to his job at Wednesday on a long term basis, it has been revealed that the former Portuguese Under-21 head coach only signed a one-year contract extension last summer and could leave The Owls this summer.

Defeat in the Play-Offs may not have helped Wednesday’s hopes of holding on to their popular boss and Carvalhal has confirmed that he will discuss his future with The Owls’ owner Chansiri next week as the club plan for another push for promotion next season.

Carvalhal has been in charge at Hillsborough for the past two seasons and has won 49 of his 106 matches as Wednesday head coach. The Portuguese boss guided his side to within 90 minutes of the Premier League last season but they were defeated 1-0 by Hull City in the Play-Off Final at Wembley.
