Champions League Semi-Finalists interested in Aston Villa man

According to various reports from French media outlets, Champions League Semi Finalists Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Aston Villa full back Jordan Amavi.

Amavi has been linked with a move away from the Sky Bet Championship side since they were relegated from the Premier League in 2015/16.

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia confirmed that the club had rejected a £25 million bid for the player in January from French side Marseille, which appeared to warn off any interested clubs.

But with the fresh transfer window comes fresh speculation, and it seems that Atletico Madrid are seriously considering a move for the French defender, according to reports in the Birmingham Mail.

Amavi’s original position is as a left back, but following the signing of Neil Taylor in January, was moved further up the field and played as more of a winger.

He appeared 36 times for the Midlands side, as they laboured to a mid table finish in their first ever season in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Frenchman joined the club from French Ligue 1 side Nice during Tim Sherwood’s time in charge of the club.

The aim was for him to be a Premier League player, but his appearances in the top flight were limited, due to an injury he suffered whilst representing France at U21 level.

Amavi suffered a cruciate ligament injury, which ultimately ended his season, and his time in the top flight of English football.
