Top 50 Players of the EFL – 14th: John Marquis (Doncaster Rovers)

Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis has been voted by you as the 14th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Marquis is the 14th best player in the Football League.

When Doncaster ended up in Sky Bet League Two, they knew they would need some special players to get them out of the league. and so head coach Darren Ferguson went out and got some of the best players he could and one of them was Marquis, signed from Millwall after having about a million loan spells away from the club. And the fact Marquis now had a stable home for at least another year was great for him as he turned out one of the best seasons he ever had.

Marquis would become one of the best goalscorers in the league, someone Doncaster could rely on to hit the back of the net even if the team themselves weren’t playing. He would finish the season as the joint top scorer in League Two after netting 26 times with only John Akinde matching him for amount of goals he scored this season.

Now that Doncaster are back in Sky Bet League One, Marquis will be hoping to prove himself at a higher stage. And should Millwall not win their play-off final, he will get a chance to get one over on his former team.
