Top 50 Players of the EFL – 15th: Helder Costa (Wolves)

Wolves winger Helder Costa has been voted by you as the 15th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Costa is the 15th best player in the Football League.

Last summer, Wolves were taken over by Fosun International and they promised to spend a lot of money on trying to get the side to the Premier League. And credit to them, they certainly fulfilled that promise as a huge influx of players came into Molineux, mostly from Portugal. Unfortunately, Wolves would end up floundering and many of the new signings turned out not to be the right fit for the English leagues. That is except Costa.

Initially on loan from Benfica, before making that stay permanent after plenty of interest from the Premier League, Costa was the best things about a fairly mediocre Wolves season. In 40 appearances he would go on to score 12 goals and even in the games that he didn’t end up on the score sheet, he was a terror to defences thanks to his pace. Even when Wolves weren’t winning, the fans could usually enjoy the displays that Costa put in.

Even though Costa only joined Wolves permanently in January, his future is currently in doubt. Several Premier League teams are interested in signing him and it could end up being one of the sagas of the summer should Wolves put up a fight to keep him.
