Championship boss keen to lure Robbie Keane to the club

The Mirror understands that Harry Redknapp is desperately trying to lure free agent Robbie Keane to join Birmingham City next season. The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy. The pair successfully worked together during their time at Tottenham Hotspur.

Redknapp guided the Blues to Sky Bet Championship survival on the final day of the campaign after a victory against Bristol City. Blackburn Rovers would go down, sparing the club the anguish of preparing for life in the third-tier of English football.

The football manager veteran recently signed a one-year deal to remain at St Andrews following discussions with the owners. He is looking to put a side together capable of challenging nearer the top end of the table, and believes Keane could still play a part in the latter stages of his career.

It is believed that Redknapp is looking towards some other of his former Spurs colleagues to potentially increase his squad size too. He is said to be particularly keen on adding more experience to his roster, which would certainly aid their cause over a gruelling 46-game season. Unsurprisingly, Niko Kranjcar has been one of those names touted around as another possible reunion with Redknapp!

Keane has played in this league before all those years ago with Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has also represented the likes of Liverpool, Inter Milan, Leeds United and Celtic in a glittering career too, as well as earning legendary status as a Republic of Ireland international forward.
