Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Fulham star Tom Cairney since the Cottagers lost in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi finals on Tuesday.
The West London side lost 2-1 on aggregate to Fulham, meaning they will spend another season in the second tier of English football.
Following their defeat, rumours began to surface that some of their top players, most notably Tom Cairney, would move on to bigger and better things.
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic immediately ruled out a move for his top players, saying: “I expect our best players are going to stay with us.“We are talking about most important players. They are going to stay with us.”
But Tom Cairney has already confirmed his desire to test himself in the Premier League, and Newcastle are not the only club sniffing around.
According to the Northern Echo, Premier League sides West Ham and Southampton are also interested in signing the star, who helped Fulham to a sixth place finish in the Sky Bet Championship.
The 26 year old midfielder has one year remaining on his contract, and whilst Fulham’s hopes are high of signing him on to a new deal, they may be tempted to cash in on him while they can.
In 45 Sky Bet Championship games this season, Cairney has scored 12 goals and assisted 11.
He also scored the goal in the Play-Off semi final first leg at home to Reading, in a game that ended 1-1.
