Morecambe are no stranger to finishing in mid-table in Sky Bet League Two and they experienced an 18th place finish last season. Manager Jim Bentley is now looking to the future and an improved showing next season. He has now confirmed the retained list at the football club.
Just two players have been informed by the Morecambe boss that their services are no longer required and have been let go. In addition to this, seven more players have been offered extensions in the hope that they’ll remain at Shrimper for another season at least. Talks are ongoing with two more first-team players as well.
Focusing on the two who have departed, they are former Carlisle United man Peter Murphy and ex-Doncaster Rovers defender Liam Wakefield. The pair actually enjoyed quite a bit of football over the past season, starting 22 Sky Bet League Two games each over the past year. However they haven’t done enough to warrant an extension and Bentley shall be looking to replace them in the off-season.
Many more have been offered fresh terms in the hope they’ll remain at the Global Arena. They are headlined by the likes of Michael Rose, Barry Roche, Kevin Ellison, Paul Mullin and Ryan Edwards. These are clearly important players and ones that Bentley will be keen to retain. Aaron Wildig and Alex Kenyon completes those to be officially offered extensions with the club. Talks continue with duo Andy Fleming and Lee Molyneux.
