The problems that lower league sides have holding on to emerging talent is that when potential is shown, higher tier sides come calling. According to the Liverpool Echo, that is what is happening with the Reds interest in Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.
Said fuelled by the impending clear out of Spaniard Alberto Moreno, the Echo says that Liverpool are in for the 17-year-old Sessegnon who they say “remains Liverpool’s top left-back target this summer.”
Sessegnon’s rise has been meteoric this season, only coming into the first team set up this season after being promoted from the Fulham Under-18 set up. Over the course of his first Championship season with the Cottagers first team squad, the young starlet racked up 25 Sky Bet Championship appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
The Echo say that Liverpool have “also been heavily linked” with Hull City’s Scotland international Andy Robertson, the Tigers’ relegation from the Premier League making it more than likely he will leave the Yorkshire club.
However, the Echo go on to say that Liverpool have a “number of names ahead of Robertson” before going on to say that “one of them is Sessegnon.” The very same reasons that will likely see Robertson seek suitors in the Premier League, namely facing a season playing Championship football, is also likely to spur 17-year-old Sessegnon to seek a similar football trajectory.
Whist Sessegnon pre-agreed a first professional deal at Craven Cottage ahead of this season just passed, there is no doubt that, based upon his sparkling performances and potential, that Premier League teams will be willing to flash serious cash in front of Fulham’s face in an attempt to sign the youngster.
