Newcastle United are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho after he put in a transfer request according a report from Portuguese publication O Jogo via Sports Witness.
The Magpies have made no secret of the fact they are looking to spend a lot of money after they returned to the Premier League after becoming the champions of the Sky Bet Championship and they are now looking abroad to find who might be their new star player. And one player they have been looking at is West Bromwich Albion target, William Carvalho.
The 25-year-old winger is a star player for Sporting Lisbon but with the club usually willing to listen to offers for their best players in the past, many teams do think that they can swoop in and sign players like Carvalho. West Brom reportedly tried last year, making an offer worth €35m, just over £30m in pounds, but had that turned down.
But this year could be different as this report suggests that Carvalho is trying to force a move and has put a transfer request in. While this isn’t a do or die measure, he is happy to wait for a good offer to come in so Sporting get good value for their star man, this does make it far more likely that he will be heading to England during this transfer window. West Brom remain the favourites to sign him after their failed attempts last year but now they are joined by the recently promoted Newcastle.
