Kent Live is reporting that Charlton Athletic have declared their interest in signing Leeds United striker Lee Erwin. The Scottish forward still has a year left on his Elland Road deal, but is unlikely to break back into the first team. He impressed in Sky Bet League One last season on loan at Oldham Athletic.
Addicks boss Karl Robinson is looking to bolster his squad significantly over the summer. He announced his retained list today, revealing that five have been let go. All attentions now go on adding to his Charlton roster and the Leeds frontman is certainly among his list of transfer targets over the next few months.
The 23-year-old made the move to Elland Road back in 2015 when joining from Scottish Premier League side Motherwell. However since then he has only started two Sky Bet Championship matches. His last appearance of any kind for the club came in April 2016 in an away draw at Hull City. Ten goals in 40 appearances last season is a decent return for a player that ultimately played for a bottom half side last season, and the Addicks have taken notice.
Oxford United have also been linked with his across social media, but there isn’t anything too concrete surrounding this and is merely speculation at this stage. The case with Athletic is certainly only speculation right now too, but Erwin is likely to need a place to play next season. The Valley could be an attractive proposition as Robinson shall certainly be targeting an improved showing now he gets to have a pre-season with the club.
