The Pink’Un believes that Norwich City are now heading the chase to sign forward Marley Watkins. Ever since he decided to reject a new contract with Barnsley, a string of Sky Bet Championship clubs formed a queue for his signature. The Canaries are now said to be heading that queue.
The 26-year-old is certainly a man in-demand after becoming a free agent. Ipswich Town, Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all been linked with him at one stage or another. Despite being managerless, Norwich look set to bag their man all being well.
His contract at Oakwell expires in June, where he is then expected to officially start his life as a Norwich City player. Stuart Webber, the new sporting director at Carrow Road, is the man in place right now looking to not only get a new manager in place but to oversee recruitment too. Watkins looks set to be one of the first new faces through the door in the off-season.
Watkins, who can play either wide right or centre forward, began his career at Cheltenham Town before a loan spell at Bath City was then made permanent. A switch to Hereford proved fruitful, enough to earn him a move to Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. It was then the move to Barnsley in 2015 which saw him shine in the English game on a grander scale, leading to a string of clubs hoping to sign him given his contractual situation. Paul Heckingbottom was unhappy to lose him considering his importance to them.
