According to reports coming out of Scotland, Newcastle United’s Scottish international defender Grant Hanley is the subject of interest from both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby County.

The Scottish Sun has reported that the two Sky Bet Championship sides are set to battle it out for the out of favour Newcastle defender.

Rafa Benitez has been a busy man already this summer, and has scouted several different players that he is interested in bringing in.

But what is just as important is offloading players who he feels will not contribute to the side in the Premier League, and Hanley is thought to be towards the top of that list.

The former Blackburn defender only started five games for Newcastle in their Sky Bet Championship title winning season.

Hanley completed a move from Blackburn Rovers for a fee believed to be in the region of £6million in the summer of 2016, but has suffered a lot with injury and has struggled to maintain any sort of fitness.

Because of this, he has struggled to make an impact on Rafa Benitez, and the Spaniard is wanting to offload him.

Hanley certainly has the capabilities to play in the Championship. He impressed during his time at Blackburn Rovers, so much so that Benitez originally thought he was worth the £6 million that Rovers wanted.

Unfortunately though, things have not worked out for Hanley, and perhaps a move is needed to try and get his career back on track.
