Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley are closing in on the signing of St Mirren midfielder Stevie Mallan.
Yesterday, the72 reported that a deal has been accepted, but further developments have occurred.
The young Scottish midfielder played a key role in St Mirren’s survival in the second tier in Scotland, scoring 12 goals in the season, including seven in the last nine to help keep them up.
A fee was agreed yesterday (May 14) that will see Mallan move south of the border and join Barnsley.
The fee is reported to be between £250,000-£300,000 however other add ons in the deal are yet to be finalised.
Mallan was set to move to Oakwell in January before a move collapsed, and St Mirren promised the midfielder that they would not stand in his way if he wanted to move on at the end of the season.
The Under 21 international was reportedly given permission to travel to Oakwell today (May 15) to have a look at the facilities before making a final decision.
Mallan has a year remaining on his contract at St Mirren, but is expected to complete a move this summer, rather than waiting to sign a pre-contract agreement in the January of next year.
His St Mirren debut came all the way back in November 2014. Since then, he has appeared 112 times for the club, finding the back of the net 29 times.
Mallan’s ability was recognised when one of his goals was voted as goal of the season at the 2015 PFA Scotland Award ceremony.
